Spring assisted dropsides
The Thompson’s spring assisted dropsides has been designed to aid the operator with the opening and closing of ‘heavy’ dropsides, reducing the risk of back injuries common with heavy lifting.

A risk assessment highlighted that operators had a high risk of back injury from the manual lifting of steel dropsides. To reduce the risk we have designed a spring system that aides the operator when opening and closing the dropsides.

The system significantly reduces the physical requirement need to open and close the dropsides and inturn has reduced the risk of back injuries. The system is available for vehicles from 7.5 tonne to 26 tonne G.V.W and for steel and aluminium dropsides.

Hydraulic powered dropsides

Hydraulic assisted dropsides have been designed to be used in conjuction with a side tipping body or heavy duty dropsides. The system consists of two or three hydraulic cylinders per side depending on the length of dropside and pillar mounted automatic hydraulic locking system.

The system is operated in the safety of the vehicles cab using dash mounted levers. Body mounted proximity switches and an incab audible and visual warning system inform the operator that the sides are in an unlocked position.

'Fold-away' grabloader

The HMF 1244 'fold-away' loader in conjuction with the Thompson 'Loadmaster' tipping body deliveres a totally versitile package to any operator or fleet.

This unique loader is able to 'fold-away' with the grab bucket still attached. With the loader unstowed the vehicle can be used as a standard grabloader with all the same features and capabilities. When stowed the vehicle can operate as a standard tipper.

Our 'Loadmaster' body can also be fitted with a demountable gritter unit with internal body mounted lashing points.

Pneumatic wacker carrier

The Thompson’s pneumatic wacker carrier is designed to reduce the risk of serious back injury from the heavy manual lifting of stowing a wacker on a vehicle.

A risk assessment highlighted that the operator had a high risk of injury from bending underneath a tipping body to stow and unstow the wacker from a stationary carrier. Our solution was to design a lifting device that raised and lowered the wacker from underneath the tipping body and allowed the operator to slide the wacker out of the carrier.

The system also incorporates a number of safety features to aid the driver of the vehicle and the operator of the pneumatic wacker carrier. A two handed operated control box mounted to the nearside of the chassis to stops an operator standing in front of the lowering wacker. The system also features an in cab warning light and buzzer that are mounted on the dash of the vehicle to warn the driver that the carrier is in an unstowed position and a power supply switch to disable the carrier preventing the system being used by unauthorised personnel when the vehicle is stationary.

Each system is supplied with a step by step instruction guide, warning and mandatory stickers affix to the vehicle and in cab, safe working load indicators and highlighted control and operation directions.

Asphalt hot boxes

A range of tipping Asphalt hot boxes are available for 7.5 to 26 tonne G.V.W chassis. Built with twin thermostatically controlled gas heated compartments the chassis mounted hotbox prevent hot spots and  allow material to be kept for a much longer period than in a conventional mobile hot box.

The hot box are fitted with two piece, bi-folding manual or pneumatically operated insulated lids operated from inside the vehicle cab using dash mounted control levers. Three manual or pneumatic discharge chutes are also fitted to the rear of the hot box.

A safety hydraulic gas bottle lift and gantry can be fitted to the chassis for the safe storage and lifting of the gas bottles. The gantry floor can be supplied with an anti-abrasion anti-slip coating.
Chassis can also be fitted with static or pneumatic powered wacker carriers.
