Another 'New Build' Factory

Thompsons, the UK's leading tipper bodybuilder, has just committed to build another new factory due to unprecedented levels of demand for its products. 50% larger The new purpose-built facility will be built adjacent to the company's existing factory in Blackburn, Lancashire. At around 30,000 square feet, the new operation will have a total area some 50% larger than the current premises, with the ability to handle up to 100 vehicles on site at any one time. Virtually flat out "Our first factory in Northern England has proved to be a runaway success" says Allan Burton, Thompsons Managing Director. "Back in July 2000 when the original Blackburn factory opened, we thought we were taking a sizeable risk by expanding into a completely new territory. In reality the opposite has been true, and Blackburn has been working virtually flat out for 5 years in a row." First bodies by Summer 2006 With the deal to go ahead only concluded at the end of last week, the plan is for 'Blackburn 2' to be producing its first bodies by Summer 2006. Strength to strength New employment opportunities will inevitably be created among a local labour force well experienced in all aspects of tipper truck bodybuilding. A major investment in the company's future, 'Blackburn 2' confirms Thompsons as a highly successful, market - leading business going from strength to strength. Improving ever aspect of customer service "The first Blackburn factory took Thompsons into new geographical areas and greatly expanded our customer base" says Sales Director Scott Burton. "Today, not only are we fully covering the Midlands and the North, but Scottish tipper operators are now coming to Thompsons as well. As a result, demand for our bodies is at unprecedented levels. However, 'Blackburn 2' isn't just about adding to our production capacity, it's also about reducing lead times, achieving greater manufacturing efficiencies and improving every aspect of our customer service." As well as the Blackburn sites, Thompsons also has two factories at its headquarters in New Addington, Croydon. Additional service and workshop facilities are located in Loughborough and Wigan.
